Hosting a Super Bowl party? Millions of Americans will be hosting a Super Bowl party this Sunday. In fact, it’s estimated that some 112.5 million people will host or attend a Super Bowl party and that the average number of people attending a party will be 14. Spending on food, drink, decorations, apparel, etc. is expected to top $16.5 Billion this year. If you’re hosting a Super Bowl party, according to a Wells Fargo report, continuing food inflation will increase the cost of your Super Bowl party snacks.
Chicken Wings. No doubt chicken wings are a staple of Super Bowl celebrations. Last year, the USDA weekly retail price report showed whole chicken wings at $3.38 per pound for the week of Super Bowl. This year, fresh chicken wings are down about 5% and down to $3.26/pound. Frozen chicken wings are down about 11% to $3.17/pound. While chicken wings might not be cheap this year, they will cost you less. And with projections that 1.45 billion chicken wings will be consumed this Super Bowl weekend, that’s a lot of savings!
Avocados. Some 139.4 million avocados will be purchased for this year’s Super Bowl snacks. While avocados were about 20% less expensive in 2023 than in 2022, this year they are costing about one cent more per pound. (Those pennies add up… 250 million avocados are expected to be purchased for Super Bowl parties.)
Beef. The cost of beef is up 2.3% from last year. Ground Beef is up 12% year-over-year. 10 million pounds of ribs will be sold the week of Super Bowl.
Chips & Dips. What’s Super Bowl party without chips and dips? But be prepared to spend more this year. Potato chip prices are up 5% year-over-year. Tortilla chip prices are up 6% year-over-year. Salsa prices are up 3% year-over-year. Guacamole will cost a bit more with avocado prices up by about one cent year-over-year. 11.3 million pounds of chips will be purchased for Super Bowl festivities… those price increases add up!
Beverages. beer prices are up slightly this year at 0.7% compared with last year when prices increased 11%. Soft drinks in aluminum can are up 4.8%, but if you opt for a 2-litre bottle, they’ll cost you 0.8% less than last year.
