Mint Hill’s New Ezell Park: Worth The Visit

Mint Hill’s New Ezell Park: Worth The Visit
If you’ve been looking for a new place to enjoy the outdoors in the Charlotte metro area, the Town of Mint Hill in Mecklenburg County now has another reason to visit.
Ezell Park, Mecklenburg County’s newest public park, officially opened in June 2026, transforming a former family farm into a beautiful 91-acre community destination that blends recreation, nature, and local history. Located at the corner of Matthews-Mint Hill Road and Mintwood Drive, the park was thoughtfully designed to preserve the property’s rural heritage while providing amenities that residents of all ages can enjoy.
From Family Farm To Community Park
The land that is now Ezell Park has an interesting history.
Mecklenburg County purchased the property in 2001 as development continued to expand across eastern Mecklenburg County. One of the conditions of the sale was that the land would always be used as either a park or a school, ensuring it would remain a community asset for generations to come.
Rather than clearing the entire property, planners chose to preserve much of its natural landscape. Approximately 32 acres of mature woodland, two ponds, and the surrounding Goose Creek watershed have been protected, creating a park that feels connected to nature instead of replacing it.
Something For Everyone
Whether you’re looking for exercise, family fun, or simply a peaceful place to spend an afternoon, Ezell Park offers an impressive variety of amenities.
Nature-Themed Playground
The playground was designed to complement the park’s natural surroundings rather than compete with them. Children can climb, explore, and play while remaining connected to the park’s woodland setting.
Sprayground
North Carolina summers can be hot, and the sprayground provides a welcome place for children to cool off while enjoying the outdoors.
Pickleball Courts
With pickleball continuing to grow in popularity, Ezell Park features four dedicated courts that give players another excellent place to enjoy one of America’s fastest-growing sports.
Basketball Court
The full-size basketball court provides space for pickup games, individual practice, and recreational play.
Open Multiuse Field
The large open field can accommodate everything from tossing a football or flying a kite to informal soccer games and community gatherings.
Walking Trails And Multiuse Paths
The park includes paved walking trails and multiuse paths that invite visitors to enjoy a morning walk, afternoon stroll, or bike ride while taking in the property’s natural beauty.
Expanded Community Garden
One of the property’s longtime features—the community garden—has been expanded and enhanced. Local gardeners have cultivated this space for years, and it remains an important part of the park’s connection to its agricultural roots.
Public Art Meets Nature
Visitors to Ezell Park will also discover a striking public art installation called Wings, created by local artist Meredith Connelly. Inspired by native pollinators, the artwork reflects the park’s emphasis on ecology, wildlife, and environmental stewardship while adding another unique feature to explore.
Preserving Open Space In A Growing Area
Mint Hill continues to attract new residents thanks to its small-town character, convenient location, and easy access to Charlotte. As the community grows, preserving green space has become increasingly important.
Ezell Park demonstrates how thoughtful planning can balance growth with conservation. Rather than developing every acre, Mecklenburg County invested approximately $8.5 million to create recreational opportunities while protecting environmentally sensitive areas and honoring the property’s history. Construction began in 2024 following extensive community input and planning.
Parks Matter
Quality parks do more than provide a place to play.
They encourage healthier lifestyles, create gathering places for neighbors, support youth recreation, preserve natural habitats. Parks enhance the overall quality of life that attracts people to communities like Mint Hill.
Whether you’re bringing the kids to the playground, meeting friends for pickleball, enjoying a quiet walk through the woods, or simply relaxing outdoors, Ezell Park offers another wonderful opportunity to experience everything that makes the Greater Charlotte area such a desirable place to call home.
